Hasn’t Anne read the reviews? Hathaway celebrates like SHE won an Oscar

By SARAH BULL

A little early to celebrate: Anne Hathaway and James Franco ended their Oscars hosting gig triumphantly

Punching the air triumphantly at the end of the Oscars ceremony, it was clear that Anne Hathaway and her co-host James Franco were ready to pat themselves on the back for a job well done.

Anne was later seen partying up a storm at the Weinstein after-party, throwing back champagne and dancing animatedly with a borrowed Oscar statuette.

But as the actress toasted her hosting gig, critics were already writing up scathing reviews of her and co-host James Franco's 'clumsy and downright painful' skits.

Party time: Anne parties with boyfriend Adam Shulman and The Kings Speech producer Gareth Unwin

It had been hoped that employing Anne and James as hosts for this year's Academy Awards would give the ceremony a young and fresh feel.

But despite bringing their considerable comedic talents to the plate while presenting the Academy Awards, using skits and montages to add to their hosting duties, the pair's performance was met with mixed critical reception.

The 83rd Academy Awards opened with a montage of Hathaway and Franco delving into the mind of former Oscar winner Alec Baldwin in an Inception-inspired moment, narrated by the smooth-voiced Morgan Freeman.

And things continued to get more and more surreal, as the pair poked fun at The King's Speech, which took home four Oscars, The Fighter and True Grit, as well as The Social Network and Back to the Future.

I like the feel of this: Anne borrowed an Oscar statuette to take for a spin on the dance floor at the Weinstein party

Having a good time? The actress appeared incredibly animated as she arrived at the Weinstein Oscar party

Perhaps the funniest moment of the opening montage, however, was Hathaway and Franco both donning leotards and tutus to join Natalie Portman in Black Swan.

The pair attempted to impress the hard-nosed Vincent Cassel with their dancing abilities, and left Portman looking flustered with their 'talent'.
Hathaway also returned to her former duty at the Oscars in 2009 when she joined then-host Hugh Jackman for a duet to open the show.

Oh, mother! Madonna embarrasses Lourdes as she brandishes her bottom on red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscars party

By BAZ BAMIGBOYE

Spot the teen: Lourdes Leon, 14, was out with her mother Madonna at the Vanity Fair Oscar party last night - and guess who was dressed the most outrageously...

It's every 14-year-old's worst nightmare. You get a ticket to the coolest party in town, but then your mother spoils it by tagging along wearing inappropriate clothing and what's worse, exposes her behind to all and sundry.

On the red carpet, that's just what happened when 52-year-old Madonna left daughter Lourdes blushing with embarrassment on the red carpet of the Vanity Fair party last night.

The Material Girl had gone out wearing little more than a black leotard and a few scraps of lace and the mortified teen was heard pleading: 'Mum, do you have to?!’ every time her popstar parent struck a pose and poked out her posterior for the waiting cameras.

All smiles: Raven-haired Lourdes appeared to have beaten her embarrassment as she grinned for the photographers

'Is that my mom's butt..? I hope my dress isn't that short': Lourdes catches sight of her mother's behind before self-consciously pulling her own dress down

She told Access Hollywood: '(My mom) does actually (borrow my clothes). I go into her closet - I'm not supposed to take things without asking, but she's always taking things without asking.

'I mean, she gets mad at me when I take things without asking her, but... she has such amazing like clothes, so it's like kind of annoying sometimes... She wears my shoes a lot and she wears my accessories.'

And the winner is...Natalie Portman hands over her Oscar for Best Actress to get engraved with her name at the Governor's Ball

Grub's up: Wolfgang Puck arrives with a tray of Oscar-themed food that was being served at the ball

Across town meanwhile, the official Academy Awards afterparty, the Governor's Ball was taking place.

The catering meanwhile was being delivered by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, who's been in charge of the menus there for the past 17 years.

Puck said ahead of the event: ‘For the main course, we have English sole with a confit of tomatoes and a paella. This is a vegetarian paella because I know Natalie Portman is a vegan – so she’s going to have a big bowl of that!'

Proud: Colin Firth poses with his Best Actor Oscar at the Governor's Ball

Say hello to my little friend: Firth has no qualms about letting fans hold his Oscar as he parties the night away

However, before the pregnant star could tuck into her dinner, there was the important job of getting a certain gold statuette inscribed with her name...

She wasn't the only winner making a beeline to the inscription table either.

Best Actor winner Colin Firth was one of the first inline and after graciously posing for photos with his, got out his own phone to take a few snaps of it.

Kathryn Schwarz, the Academy's official keeper of the Oscars, said: 'It's a little something special to have your name on it.'

Back down to earth: Pregnant Natalie Portman dresses for comfort in flat shoes after Oscars win

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Low key: Natalie Portman and her fiancé Benjamin Millepied enjoyed breakfast in LA today following her best actress win at the Oscars

Natalie Portman swapped red carpet glamour for practical maternity wear today following her triumphant night at the Academy Awards.

The 29-year-old, who is pregnant with her first child, kicked off her high heels for comfortable flats as she celebrated her best actress win with a low-key breakfast in Los Angeles.

She was joined by Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied at Square One Dining in Los Angeles.

The star admitted this week that she was looking forward to putting her feet up after the awards season.

'Staying at home with messy hair in sweats... is the biggest luxury of all,' she said.

Last night Portman paid tribute to her fiancé for giving her the 'most important role of her life' during her acceptance speech.

During a tearful moment, the actress paid tribute to her friends, family and co-stars and described her win as 'insane'.

Comfortable: The Black Swan star wore flats and a casual outfit for her post-Oscars outing

Fighting back tears, Portman thanked her parents, Avner and Shelley Hershlag, for 'giving me my life, the opportunity to work from such an early age and showing me how to be a good human being by example'.

She also honoured Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, who she described as a 'fearless leader and visionary', and her friends 'who are everything to me, no matter what's going on in my career'.

Looking lovingly at Millepied, a ballet dancer, she thanked her 'beautiful love' and said he had 'given me the most important role of my life'.

Isn't it a bit cold for bare legs? Suri Cruise braves the snow in a flimsy dress as she goes for cupcakes with mother Katie

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Aren't you cold? Suri Cruise steps out in Vancouver with mother Katie Holmes in a flimsy dress and bare legs - ignoring the snow on the ground and cold weather

With temperatures dropping to as low as minus 1C in Vancouver, Canada, locals are wrapping up warm to protect themselves from the bitter cold.

But little Suri Cruise is clearly determined to put style above comfort, stepping out in a flimsy dress and bare legs as she went for cupcakes with her mother Katie Holmes in the city yesterday.

The four-year-old did give in to the wintery conditions at all, wearing pink boots and a bright pink jacket, but didn't appear to be staying warm in her thin dress.

Mummy and me: Katie holds tight to her four-year-old as they step out

Meanwhile, Katie, 32, opted for black trousers, a long coat, knee-high boots and a scarf for the trip out.

The pair are in the Canadian city while Tom Cruise shoots the latest installment of the Mission: Impossible film franchise.

And they have certainly been making the most of their time in Vancouver, popping out on regular coffee runs, with Suri even permitted to follow in her mother's footsteps by getting coffee of her own.

Sweet treat: Suri deliberates on which cupcake she wants as Katie looks on

It seems Suri's favourite colour of the moment is pink, as she appears to be continually choosing clothes in the sweet shade for her days out.

Tom and Katie have both previously spoken about Suri's passion for fashion, with Katie admitting her daughter is developing a love of shopping.

She said: 'The other day we came out of a store, and she said, ‘I want to go there,’ pointing at another store quite a distance away. In that store was the dress that she wanted. I said, "Wow, Suri. You’re something. You picked that out from a football field away." '

Passion for fashion: Suri has been putting style above comfort as she and mother Katie accompany Tom Cruise in the Canadian city

Katie added she finds it amazing that Suri also gives her fashion advice on what or what not to wear on the red carpet.

She laughed: 'She’ll really tell me what she thinks. Like today I’m wearing brown suede pants, and she said, "I don’t like your pants."

'But then she’ll say, "You’ve got to wear these shoes." Or "That’s so pretty, Mom. Wear that." She’s got a great eye.'

Love's young dream: Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez FINALLY make their red carpet debut together at Vanity Fair Oscars party

Love's young dream: Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber made their red carpet debut together at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in Los Angeles last night

They've been quietly dating since November but have been maintaining a low profile ever since.

But last night, teen sensations Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez finally confirmed their relationship by making their first official red carpet debut at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in Los Angeles.

With their arms wrapped around each other, the young pair stared lovingly into each others' eyes as they posed for photographers on the red carpet outside the Sunset Tower Hotel.

Dolce & Gabbana duo: Gomez looked stunning in a red dress, while Bieber wore a sharp black suit and red pocket square

The couple had even colour coordinated their outfits for the occasion, with 16-year-old Bieber donning a red pocket square in his black Dolce & Gabbana suit to complement 18-year-old Gomez's floor-length red gown, also by D&G.

Wizards of Waverley Place star Gomez accessorised her Grecian-inspired gown with Brian Atwood heels, Judith Leiber bag and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Gomez and Bieber were first romantically linked last year, after a series of meetings including Gomez visiting Bieber on his tour bus.

Starlets: The teenage sensations mixed with Hollywood royalty at the annual Oscar after-party

However, the Disney sensations declined to comment on their pairing for months, instead answering coyly about the status of their relationship.

Recently, a bold fan quizzed Bieber during an MTV question and answer session if he was dating the stunning singer and actress, to which he replied: 'I think anyone would be lucky to date her. She’s a great person.'

He later added: 'I like girls with nice, pretty eyes and a nice smile. I like girls that are funny because I like to laugh and joke around.'

Gomez has maintained an equally coy attitude about Bieber, saying previously that she considers the Never Say Never star family.

Loved-up: The pair have been quietly dating since November but have kept things under wraps until now

Recalling the first time the pair met, Gomez explained: 'When he first started to come over from Canada his manager contacted me and he just said that he would like to meet me and he was just such a good kid.

'I feel like a big sister now, because I want to protect him.'

But when she was asked if she was suffering from 'Bieber Fever' at the Grammy Awards last month, Gomez replied to Access Hollywood: 'I love him. He’s been in my life a very long time. He’s my friend.'

Gomez added she wasn't worried about the attention she was getting for her relationship with Bieber, despite Kim Kardashian receiving death threats from hundreds of fans when she and the singer joked about a mutual crush.

Gomez laughed: 'I think it’s awesome people are interested – I don’t understand why.'
Bieber and Gomez looked delighted to be mixing with Hollywood royalty at the Vanity Fair party as they made their way into the exclusive event.

Giggles all round: The pair appeared to be in high spirits as they attended the exclusive event together

Earlier in the evening, Bieber had backed True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld to take home the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

He tweeted: 'Good luck to my friend Hailee Steinfeld tonight on the #oscars . young people going for theirs! also want Christian Bale to win. #TheFighter.'

But it seems the grandeur of the party might have reminded Bieber of how lucky he has been, as he later added on Twitter: 'i'm never gonna change...i will always remember...i will always be that kid from stratford...I will always be grateful.'

Grown-up glamour: Emma Stone opted for a Chanel dress, while True Blood star Anna Paquin went for red

The cute couple weren't the only young celebrities gracing the red carpet at the star-studded event.

Country star Taylor Swift caused a stir in a tiny jewelled gold Zuhair Murad dress, while actresses Emma Stone and True Blood star Anna Paquin went for very different looks for the party.

Stone opted for an oriental-inspired Chanel Haute Couture dress with purple satin heels, while newlywed Paquin looked stunning in a ruffled red Monique Lhuillier dress and Brian Atwood black shoes.

'Clumsy and downright painful': Anne Hathaway and James Franco's Oscar skits fail to impress critics

'Downright painful': Anne Hathaway and James Franco's presenting skills received a mixed reception at this year's Oscars

It had been hoped that employing Anne Hathaway and James Franco as hosts for this year's Oscars would give the ceremony a young and fresh feel.

Changing faces: The pair also integrated themselves into movies such as The King's Speech (left) and True Grit

Living the dream: Hathaway and Franco recreated the famous Paris scene as they took on Inception

Hathaway also returned to her former duty at the Oscars in 2009 when she joined then-host Hugh Jackman for a duet to open the show.

Paying tribute to the track, Hathaway donned a tuxedo to perform a comic rendition of On My Own from Les Miserables.

Directing the song at Jackman, who sat in the front row of the ceremony and found himself the butt of many a presenter's joke, Hathaway belted out lyrics including: 'He stuck his fake retractable claws into my heart when he left me on my own.'

But Franco, determined not to be outdone, later donned a pink dress and blonde wig to come on to the stage as Marilyn Monroe and tell a joke about Charlie Sheen.

However, if he had been hoping the joke earn him a reputation as a controversial host, it paled in comparison to Ricky Gervais' choice numbers at the Golden Globes earlier this year.

Other montages throughout the show included a look back to Gone With The Wind and Lord of the Rings.

And one of the most memorable montages of the evening was a clever piece using auto-tune technology to make songs out of dialogue from films including Twilight, which saw Edward and Bella sing 'He Doesn't Own a Shirt' about Jacob, Toy Story 3 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

One of the advantages of having a younger host, however, is that Franco used is considerable knowledge of social networking site Twitter to tweet fans throughout the show as the ceremony went out live on US television.

Using the hash tag #OscarsRealTime, Franco tweeted photographs and video of himself, as well as a group shot with Hathaway and Oprah Winfrey, before later adding another one of the presenting pair and former host Billy Crystal.

He later posted photographs of himself still wearing his tuxedo and enjoying a cocktail with 'Goodbye LA' scrawled over it in blue writing.

It remains to be seen whether Franco and Hathaway's attempts to make the ceremony more modern and accessible for younger viewers was successful enough to ensure similar hosts next year, or whether producers will go back to a veteran host like Billy Crystal.

Musical number: Hathaway donned a tuxedo to perform a rendition of On My Own, with jokes directed at former duet partner Hugh Jackman

Passion for fashion: However, Hathaway did get to go for stylish outfits for the rest of the evening, indulging in an astonishing eight costume changes throughout the ceremony

Before the awards, Franco said: 'Nobody thinks I'm Chris Rock or Billy Crystal. I can try anything and nobody has high expectations, so nobody cares if I'm not great.'

Hathaway had added: 'I love the Oscars. I do. I think it's wonderful. I love being an actor.

'I feel like the luckiest girl in the whole wide world, and this is just a continuation of the amazing fortune and remarkable and unusual experiences I've gotten to have in my life. I couldn't be more grateful.'

Famous faces: Franco posted pictures on his website of himself and Hathaway with Oprah Winfrey and Billy Crystal

Video - Charlie Sheen on Bizarre Today Show Interview

Charlie Sheen made his first television appearance since all of his recent problems erupted, and it was the most bizarre thing we have ever seen.

Sheen sat down with NBC’s Jeff Rossen on the Today Show and what followed was the most embarrassing thing Sheen has ever done. His handlers should have done whatever they had to do to keep him of the tube – but alas, Charlie will be Charlie.

Sheen talked about his show being cancelled, his drug use, his kids, violence against women, depression, and his war with CBS and the executives he claims are trying to destroy his family. It was an epic fail for Uncle Charley.

First off, Sheen looked like he has been rode hard and put away wet. He rambles on in a manic way that tells us that he is not 100% on his game even though he thinks he is.

The big shockers?

Sheen thinks Chuck Lorre and staff owe him a huge public apology and that they should be licking his feet. He feels he just wants to be this “amazing rock star” that he knows he is, and that people just need to accept his incredible worldly talent and crazy adult lifestyle.

On Alcoholics Anonymous he says it is a silly book written by a broken down fool who plagiarized.

Charlie also says he would only return to “Two and a Half Men” if he got a raise – because he believes he is just that good and thinks he is underpaid.
Sheen said he has never been drunk or high on the set but admits that several times he was hung-over.

He admits he’s tired of pretending he is not special, like a bitch’n rock star from Mars, and that people can’t process his greatness with their “normal brains.”

When asked if he was angry about what has happened he told Rossen,

"Well I'm not angry, I'm passionate. It's like everybody thinks I should be begging for my job back and I'm just gonna forewarn them that it's everybody else that's going to be begging me for their job back."

Rossen then asked Charley what he would say to Chuck Lorre if he was watching, and Sheen produced index cards with some very loaded, and strange, questions.

When asked how he will keep from slipping back to drugs and addictions he said,

“I just won’t do it. I will not believe that if I do something then I have to follow it with a certain path because it was written for normal people, people that aren’t special, that don’t have tiger blood and Adonis DNA.”

Wow. Really?

The winners for the shortest frocks are...Taylor Swift and Cameron Diaz dazzle at the Vanity Fair party

By JODY THOMPSON

Bobbydazzlers: Taylor Swift, left, shimmered in a short gold strapless gown with matching shoes, whereas Cameron Diaz, right, was wearing a tight off-the-shoulder monochrome print dress with black shoeboots

Neither of them were up for any Oscars - but Cameron Diaz and Taylor Swift were the runaway winners of the shortest dress competition at the Vanity Fair party last night.

Cameron arrived on the red carpet of the hottest post-Academy Awards party in a tight off-the-shoulder monochrome print mini with frill detail - although not many people were looking at her frock.

Instead, all eyes were on the 38-year-old's toned physique, which the actress has been perfecting with rigorous bootcamp-style work outs with her baseball-playing boyfriend Alexander Rodriguez, 35.

All that glisters: Golden girl Taylor made a grand entrance in her sparkling gold frock

Cam here often? Ms Diaz wasn't shy to show off her stunning physique at the West Hollywood party

The star accessorised her barely-there outfit with skyscraper black shoe-boot peep toe heels.

Taylor meanwhile was wearing an elegant strapless shimmering gold number with matching shoes, 1940s-style glamourpuss hair and a slash of red lipstick.

She's got legs: The star was one of the most dazzling at the magazine's post Academy Awards event

The 21-year-old country star certainly wowed the crowd with her sophisticated makeover.

Also going for gold was Gwyneth Paltrow in an elegant off-the-shoulder gown in a more nude shade compared to the metallic dress she'd worn at the actual ceremony.

Young love: Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were also on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party at the Sunset Tower in Los Angeles last night

Going for gold: Gwyneth Paltrow looked stunning in a shimmering gold asymmetric gown

Other surprises on the red carpet at the bash, thrown by the society and fashion magazine, included Justin Bieber's first public appearance hand-in-hand with girlfriend Selena Gomez, who was wearing a stunning blood-red Dolce and Gabbana gown.

Another loved-up couple cosying up at the Oscar's most exclusive bash included True Blood's Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin.

However, Madonna arrived accompanied by a surprisingly unembarrassed 14-year-old daughter Lourdes, as the star appeared to have forgotten her skirt.

Alone: Jessica Biel arrived at the party solo after her boyfriend Justin Timberlake took his mother rather than her to the Oscars ceremony earlier in the evning

And Justin Timberlake sparked rumours of a split with girlfriend Jessica Biel when he chose not to escort her to the party.

He had earlier taken his mother to the awards ceremony, but left Jessica to pose alone on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair party.

Bite of all right: True Blood's Stephen Moyer and his onscreen and offscreen partner Anna Paquin

Onlookers were also surprised that the two major fashion faux pas came from the two dress designers at the party - namely Diane Von Furstenberg and Donna Karan.

Donna was wearing an ill-fitting shiny black floor length frock with silver detailing that left her with a weird looking decolletage and torso.

Party people: Mick Jagger and his model girlfriend L'Wren Scott were also on the red carpet, along with Jude Law and his friend Robert Downey Jnr and wife Susan

Diane meanwhile was wearing another ill-fitting gown, this time an odd studded affair with peculiar fluffy shoulder bits.

Cameron meanwhile is getting ready to release her new movie Bad Teacher, which is creating something a buzz before release, not least due to the trailer in which the star gets lathered up in tiny Daisy Duke-style shorts at a car wash.

Black tie: Mad Men star Jon Hamm and girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt looked the business at the bash

Ladies in red: Previous Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock looked stunning in vivid scarlet whereas comedy actress Leslie Mann was classy in claret

The trailer for her latest movie shows her pictured smoking marijuana as well as swearing like a trooper.

Diaz pairs up with her former boyfriend Justin Timberlake who plays another member of staff in the film, due to be released in June this year.

Contrasts: Emma Stone, who stars in the forthcoming The Amazing Spider-Man, wore an interested purple patterned dress, whereas former Road House and Drugstore Cowboy star Kelly Lynch kept it simple in black
